Merck supports the researchers of tomorrow

Merck supports up-and-coming scientific talent. Within the scope of school sponsoring activities, we work closely with educational establishments in the region. As a sponsor of the  “Jugend forscht“ young researchers competition, Merck organizes the competition for the German federal state of Hesse every year.

With its school sponsorship concept, Merck wants to help attract greater interest in science – especially chemistry – among students. The project is geared toward students from first grade to specialized courses in higher grades.

Merck supports a large number of schools with materials and expertise. Within the context of school partnerships with selected schools from the region, teachers receive extensive support for science classes. Depending on the topics to be covered, links can also be established between several school subjects. This leads to an added benefit by strengthening the links between the scientific disciplines.

Merck is one of the few companies that conduct intensive pharmaceutical and chemical research in Germany. Therefore, it is very important to us to promote talented young researchers, as we do for example with “Jugend forscht“.

Highly motivated employees who remain curious, enjoy performing experiments and dare to try new things safeguard the future of our company. Fostering and supporting students at a young age is clearly in our interest.

In 1982, Merck began organizing regional competitions. Since 1996 we have hosted the Hesse state competition every year. The national competition has already been held twice at Merck, in 1989 and 2002.
