State-of-the-art production facilities secure our market leadership

In recent years Merck has invested more than one billion euros in the Darmstadt plant, inter alia in production facilities.
In 2010 too, Merck has successfully protected its market and technology leadership in the liquid crystals sector. Merck is currently investing approximately 50 million euros in the construction of a hydrogenation plant and other facilities for the production of liquid crystals at the headquarters, in so doing adapting the production capacities to the growth of the markets and extending its lead in this area further still.
As a measure to satisfy the rising demand for inorganic salts, which are essentially destined for applications in (bio-)pharmaceutical production processes and for use as excipients and additives in the food industry, a further 30 million euros is being invested in the installation of a new production building in Darmstadt to increase the capacity significantly. These activities take special consideration of the cGMP requirements and product safety aspects.
Merck is also a supplier of chromatography materials for the pharmaceutical production 'downstream processing'. As a measure for these products to meet the constantly growing global demand, Merck is investing some 13 million euros in a production facility at Gernsheim site.
