Job search

Our two-year trainee program in Inhouse Consulting offers a more intense, subject-specific preparation for a position in our company.

The Trainee program includes a day to day role in the business and project work as well as an assignment abroad for three to six months.

Working with experienced colleagues, you’ll focus on strategy, growth and optimization consultancy projects and gain extensive project management skills.

You’ll also tackle an assignment in both the Pharmaceuticals and Chemicals and business sectors. These will give you the chance to learn how our business operates day-to-day in, for instance, marketing, sales or production. And, on top of that, there’ll be an assignment abroad at one of our international subsidiaries.

Each of these stages will last between three and six months. Complete them successfully and we could well offer you a full-time role.


What we look for

  • A university or college degree in science or engineering, plus an additional qualification in business administration (university degree or MBA); or a university degree in business supplemented by a degree in a natural science or engineering (university degree or vocational training).
  • Practical experience in the form of at least two challenging internships in industry or consultancy
  • Strong analytical and assertiveness skills
  • Good communication skills, creativity and initiative
  • Fluent English
  • Excellent PC skills
  • A willingness to be mobile regionally and to work abroad

Our two-year trainee program in Accounting & Controlling offers a more intense, subject-specific preparation for a position in our company.

The Trainee program includes a day to day role in the business and project work as well as an assignment abroad for twelve months.

You’ll spend twelve months in our Darmstadt headquarters and twelve months in Boston, Geneva, Lyon, Jakarta or Mexico city. Your working assignments will include time in Merck's Shared Service center, Enterprise Controlling, Divisional Controlling, Corporate Controlling, Internal Audit, Treasury, Group Reporting plus projects. And throughout you’ll benefit from close mentoring and continuous feedback and ongoing development. While abroad you’ll report directly to the Chief Financial Officer.

The start dates for this permanent contract are:


  • February 1st (two people)
  • August 1st (two people)
  • November 1st (one person)


What we look for


  • A university degree, either German Diploma (Dipl. Kfm. / Dipl. Wirt. Ing.) or equivalent M.Sc. or MBA
  • Excellent grades
  • Fluent English, other languages a plus
  • Multicultural experience through an internship and/or studies abroad
  • Strong analytical, numeric and communication skills
  • Technical and financial accounting knowledge (IFRS)
  • Experience of working with Excel & SAP

We’re particularly looking for people who’ve had vocational training as an:

  • Biology laboratory technician
  • Chemical laboratory technician
  • Chemical plant worker, chemical technician
