Join Merck in Germany as a scientist

As a pharmacist, physician, biologist, physicist or chemist with a doctorate, you have already worked in laboratories or production areas. You are now interested in expanding your theoretical and practical skills, familiarizing yourself with new areas of specialization, or intensifying your existing knowledge of  subjects. At Merck, you will encounter an innovative working environment. In state-of-the art laboratories we are working in the following areas to develop the products that will enable us to succeed tomorrow.
Applications technology
As a physicist, you will apply your extensive experimental and theoretical skills in this area with a focus on customer applications of our products. Since, in many cases the  behavior of a chemical cannot simply be deduced from its physical and chemical properties (e.g. levels of impurities, particle size, etc.), it is your task to determine processability in experiments.
Drug safety
As a pharmacist, your role will be that of a Drug Safety Officer. As such, you will be responsible for reporting and assessing adverse drug reactions in Germany and abroad, conduct training courses, prepare safety reports and support research projects.
Drug registration
As a Regulatory Affairs Manager, you will be involved from the development phase up to the coordination of the registration process – from contacts with the regulatory authorities and information management up to country-specific issues.
Automation engineering
As a physicist, you will be responsible for realizing investment projects aimed at automating process engineering systems In technical service units. This includes the entire process chain, from acquisition, defining the specifications and detail engineering right up to commissioning of the system. Skills in areas such as steering and control technology would be desirable.
Clinical research
You will conduct Phase I-IV clinical trials and design development and study plans for new active pharmaceutical ingredients and drugs. You will document research results and evaluate ongoing projects and licenses. Work in the clinical research department involves close contact with clinical study physicians, research scientists and medical institutes - at an international as well as a domestic level.
Laboratory
Here you will mainly deal with development and quality control work. The tasks range from synthesizing new active ingredients, investigating their pharmacological and toxicological properties, up to post-marketing work to support and optimize our product
Medical-scientific consultation
Here your work will relate to a wide variety of indications. You will therefore prepare expert knowledge for your target groups, answer scientific queries, evaluate licensing offers, clarify safety issues concerning our pharmaceutical products and initiate clinical trials.
Patent department
Your tasks here will include protecting the company's discoveries and other intellectual property against unauthorized use by third parties. The patent department transforms discovery announcements into patent applications, which it then submits to the Patent Office, and manages developments until the patent is granted. As a chemist and a member of the patent department, you will also clarify the patent situation with regard to third-party rights which our own products or processes may impinge upon.
Pharmaceutical research
This is the center of creativity of our company. New products and therapeutic approaches are discovered and tested here for their marketability and subsequently further developed.  Continually positioning innovative and efficacious products in the marketplace is critical to our ability to compete in the global marketplace.
Preclinical research
Here, the focus is on basic biomedical research. Your work, aimed at satisfying the criteria that tomorrow's products must meet, will involve close interdisciplinary cooperation with other departments within the company.
Production
Making rapid, pharmaceutically sound decisions on a daily basis will be crucial in order to support the production manager and ensure smooth production operations. Top priority is assigned to drug safety as well as occupational health and safety and environmental protection.
Product management, pharmaceutical marketing, medical information management
If you’re a scientist with strong communication skills, you will be ideal for this highly diverse area of work. Your tasks will involve the scientific detailing of our products to physicians, pharmacists and hospitals, and planning seminars, symposia as well as similar events for this purpose. Or you can market new or existing products, serving as the interface between customers and the different departments at Merck.
Sales and marketing
With additional business qualifications, you will develop customer-focused solutions aimed at successfully positioning Merck products in the global market. For this purpose, you will develop marketing concepts, prepare market analyses, develop promotional campaigns and training programs and are a competent contact for all technical matters. In addition, you will continually generate relevant information and transpose it into creative offers for customers. Image cultivation and product support as well as wide service range for our current and future customers are important here.
